GENZ BENZ!!
My new Genz Benz amp combo is the best gear I've ever had.
It's a Shuttle 6.0-210T with an STL-12T extension cabinet. I've been
loving it ever since I got it a couple of months ago, but last weekend
I gave it the acid test.
"I played at the Old Settler's Festival outside of Austin with Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women, and there was an Ampeg SVT set up on stage for all the acts to use. Nobody can argue with how fab an SVT usually is, but I set up my Genz Benz gear to play through instead. Everyone was amazed at it's power and clarity. With the 2 cabs (a 2-10 and a 1-12) I get 600 watts of warm, punchy, clear sound. It uses a tube pre-amp, which I consider pretty much essential for the sound I want. But let's talk about portability! The amp itself is the size of a small handbag, and I can lift it with my little finger (I love to show it off that way.) The cabinets use Neodymium speakers with no sacrifice in the low end. The 12 is lighter than my suitcase. Come to think of it, the 2-10 is too, since I tend to cram something into every corner. I'm going to travel with it as much as possible this summer on tour with Dave and the Guilty Women. When I can't take the speakers I'm going to pack the amp in my suitcase and use it with the speakers that are provided at the venue - that way I'll have some control over my sound. My newest project has been with Yeprock, and I've been very pleased with them!
